Prerequisites:

To use Visual Team Planner You have to use Jira time tracking and have configured in sprint board - VTP actively uses time tracking data to plan the sprint.

Make sure that all the issues have set up time tracking field in all the issues You plan to plan and log work. If you forget this step VSP will not be able to set original and remaining time estimates.

You will get an error in the top right corner if above step is not done:

Configuration:

VSP will be available for you here:

  • Apps Jira tab

  • Sprint backlog in Jira scrum board

  • Active sprints in Jira scrum board

User manual:

The common flow when using VTP will be:

  • Prepare some tasks in a sprint You want to plan. This should be future sprint.

  • Enter VTP through backlog view on the scrum board.

  • Plan tasks with Your team by just dragging and/or setting time needed to do each subtask. Unless the sprint You are planning is started, VTP will set for You both Original Estimate and Remaining estimate in time tracking. For active sprints only remaining time will be affected.

  • Once the Team planning is done, You can start Your sprint.

  • Through the course of the sprint You can watch how the time is burnt in each task by accessing VTP from active sprints view in scrum board.

  • Together with burndown chart this tool will allow You to adapt if something is going not as planned during the sprint.

VTP time colors:

  • Green - This is time spent

  • Orange - This is remaining time of the task

  • Dark orange - This is remaining time when the task is burnt already (time spent + remaining time is > original estimate)

  • Red - This is remaining time

Additional tips:

  • You can both drag the tasks to change their position (drag inside of the task) and to change original/remaining estimate (drag at the start or the end of the task)

  • Easiest way to log work on task in VTP is to click on the task text and access issue view directly from there, then simply log work

  • Length of the issue that have subtasks is set from the first task start to the last task end. Such issues do not have representation of its time tracking.

  • You can choose which iteration you want to plan directly from VTP

  • No labels
